On Sunday 23rd April 2017 South Wales MAFVA attended a small local show inside the former waiting room of Barry Island Railway Station, whilst our President Paul Middleton and other MAFVA members were at a far larger show in Milton Keynes.
We previously put on a display at this venue a few years ago where we ended up on a freezing cold and windy station platform, but this year, with a new organiser, things were far better.
10 of us from the Branch attended the show with a good mix of models on display from a huge 1/76th scale WWII Dora rail gun for Peter Denyer to a nicely modelled Challenger 2 from new member Ollie Jones
Something different for us was that the son of the organiser put on a competition where we all had to chose our favourite model, which was then judged by the organisers, and the manager of a local model shop in Cardiff.
The well deserved winner was a diminutive little Kubelwagen from Paul Hennessy.
We always try to attend as many model shows as we can in South Wales to “fly the flag” for the MIniature AFV Association, and to recruit new members. This is clearly working as we have gradually increased from the 6 or 7 of us that we used to have for many years up to the current level of 16 branch members.
