BRITISH BATTLE TANKS, British-Made Tanks of World War II. David Fletcher. Osprey 2017. ISBN 978 1 4728 2003 7. £25

This is the second volume of renowned AFV historian David Fletcher’s history of British tanks with additional contributory chapters by David Newsome and Richard Harley.  The bulk of the book is made up of past Osprey publications: Matilda; Crusader and Covenanter; Valentine; Churchill Crocodile; and Cromwell.  These are largely unaltered apart from one or two minor improvements – a gravity defying Matilda interior view is now right way up. Additional new chapters have been added: A13 Cruiser; Tanks of the Old Gang; Churchill; and miscellaneous late war types.  Based on material from the Tank Museum archive, the photos are exceptional and well selected.  Some of these older Osprey titles are less easily available than they used to be so this omnibus volume represents excellent value even without the additional chapters.  Recommended.    Thanks to Osprey for the sample.         John Ham. MAFVA. August 2017.
